The remains were discovered after several searches of the area, police and Nassau officials announced in a press conference on Saturday, May 25.

Police say they believe they know the victim's identity but are awaiting DNA evidence to make a positive ID. The body, described as badly decomposed and not fully intact, is being examined by the medical examiner.

Authorities said they believe the body, which was recovered on Friday, May 24, had been in the preserve for two years. The body was discovered about 100 feet from where the body of an alleged MS-13 victim was discovered in March 2017.
